The Royal Borough has this week expressed its sadness at the news of the death of former councillor and twice Mayor Ron Dyason who died on Monday (April 7) in Bexhill-on-Sea.

Mr Dyason, who had been a councillor for more than 50 years, served on the former borough of New Windsor from 1955 to 1974, and was appointed to his first Mayoral term in 1966.

He became a councillor for the newly-formed Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in 1974 and served until 1983. He was appointed Mayor for a second time from 1980 to 1981.

In 1980 - during his second Mayoral year - he had the honour of presenting the Queen Mother with the Freedom of the Royal Borough. He was also a former leader of Berkshire County Council.

After moving to Bexhill-on-Sea in 1995, Mr Dyason was elected to Rother District Council and served as its chairman from 2005 to 2006. Since 1997 he also served as a county councillor for East Sussex.

Mr Dyason is survived by his wife and son and daughter.
